Whether an audit is required or not, they can provide exceptional benefits to businesses, and Emma brings years of auditing experience and expertise to our office and clients.
Emma, when did you realise you wanted a career of numbers and accountancy?
I know many people struggle with maths, but it came naturally to me from a very young age and I always enjoyed the challenge that numbers presented. I pursued this interest further and completed by degree at Hertfordshire University in accounting and finance. That’s when I learnt numbers created the greatest opportunity for creativity, it’s not all black and white and sometimes the results can be surprising.
How and when did you make the move to audits?
Following my graduation, I worked for a regional firm for 11 years. During that time, I started my audit qualifications and became a manager which then developed into Head of Audits. I love audits! It’s often very involved and I get to know a company inside out and then provide recommendations to improve their finances. Perfectionist is a term often used to describe me and that’s what works for audits; leaving no stone unturned.
When you’re not at work, what are you up to?
I have two young children aged three and five, so if I simply get a chance to sit down when I finish work, that’s a win for me. Aside from ‘being Mum’, I also enjoy a game or two of netball.
What’s your greatest achievement in your role to date?
As well as helping firms become compliant, I have thoroughly enjoyed developing internal processes for compliance. The team here are so energetic and proactive, it’s a pleasure to work alongside them. I’ve had great successes and love working with construction firms because I haven’t met one yet where we haven’t saved them money, time and resources or all three.
