We’re committed as a firm to developing and retaining some of the brightest talent in the industry. Farren Brooker, Hitchin Portfolio Holder, has been a key member of the team since 2013, bringing buckets of enthusiasm and know-how to our Hitchin office.
So, we’d like you to get to know him a bit better…
Farren, when did you first realise you wanted to start a career in accountancy?
When I started studying Business and Finance at college, accountancy was one of the key topics that stood out for me. I really enjoyed it, everything made perfect sense and I liked how accurate it was. You’re either right or wrong. The numbers work or they don’t.
What made Bracey’s stand out as a potential employer?
As my course was coming to an end I started looking for Hertfordshire accountancy practices and Bracey’s looked like a modern and proactive firm. Having met with the MD Pete Bracey, who offered to put me through my accountancy qualifications, I knew Bracey’s was where I wanted to be.
What are the up and coming challenges in the world of accountancy?
It’s not necessarily a challenge for Bracey’s but Making Tax Digital is going to impact all our clients as the tax return is digitalised. This is one of the areas I really enjoy at Bracey’s. I am tech-savvy and, as a firm, we’ve embraced the technology available to us and I love championing the use of it here at the Hitchin office.
When you’re not at work, what are you up to?
As a father to one exceptional young man, I enjoy days out as a family and, with the weather we’ve been having, discovering every soft play/splash park in Hertfordshire! I am also a huge car fanatic. Whether that’s building, modifying or just getting out there to give it/her/Betty a clean.
Finally, you’ve been a member of the team for over five years. How would you describe Bracey’s?
I’ve seen the practice grow sustainably since 2013 and I think it’s the people here that really separate us from your ‘normal’ accountancy practice. We’ve got so many specialist divisions that are headed by experts in that field. But, above everything else, we ’re not your typical accountants. Yes, some people might wear a grey suit and carry a black briefcase to work, but every member of the ‘Bracey Bunch’ has energy, enthusiasm and a passion for the clients. You don’t find that in many accountancy firms.
